Working with the National Children's Orchestras of Great Britain
The National Children's Orchestras (NCO) exists to inspire children and young people from all backgrounds to achieve their full potential through learning and performing orchestral music.
It takes over 600 children into its programme each year and aims to ensure that all exceptional children aged 7-14 have an opportunity to access its programme, irrespective of financial means, background or location. This is delivered in part via a bursary scheme and also via their network of regional orchestras.
ABRSM supports the NCO's new vision for music education through the medium of orchestral experience. The NCO's evolving approach to children's musical development resonates with what we believe should be the foundation of future training programmes.
We support the belief that creativity and well-being of young players should be central to their musical experience. This pedagogical approach nurtures their skills and confidence, and gives them the agency to develop and to enjoy music in many different ways, regardless of genre or professional ambitions.
